Objective(s)

Increase levels of physical activity in the population of NHS Highland.

Activities

  • Develop, refresh and implement an Active Highland Strategy and implementation plan for Highland with community planning partners.
  • Participate in A & B Physical Activity subgroup.
  • Develop a programme of work on Active Travel in NHS Highland.
  • Increase activity levels and confidence in children though provision of Active Play and associated initiatives.
  • Support Play Highland group to raise profile and delivery of play throughout the life course.

Governance

  • Highland Community Planning Partnership.

Performance Measures/Outcomes

  • Delivery of priority actions identified in Active Highland Strategy
  • Active travel adopted within NHS Highland policies and plans.
  • Delivery of Active Play programmes including SIMD targeting.

Activities

  • Development of local nature-based health networks.
  • Deliver a programme of work on Nature-based health with our community planning partners including development of resources to support nature-based health activity and communications work to promote nature-based health activity.
  • Nature prescriptions are included in social prescribing as alternatives to medicine.
  • Develop and promote effective ways of communication and awareness raising for pathways and activities and provide a co-ordinated approach to communication and media to support access and positive impact of nature-based opportunities and wellbeing messages.
  • Support the development and review of pathways for patient prehabilitation and rehabilitation.

  • Highland Community Planning Partnership.

Performance Measures/Outcomes

  • Delivery of priorities identified by Highland Green Health Partnership in their Sustainability Action Plan.
  • Social media activity.
  • Recording nature prescriptions with Elemental and vision.

  • Work alongside Energy, Environment and Sustainability Team to:
    • Deliver hospital-based nature and health projects.
    • Increase biodiversity across NHS Highland sites
    • Support the development and review of pathways for patient prehabilitation and rehabilitation.
    • Support development of hospital Nature-based Spaces

  • Environment and Sustainability Board.

Performance Measures/Outcomes

  • Numbers of Estates and Grounds Maintenance staff supported to increase knowledge and skills around biodiversity.
  • Numbers of staff and community volunteers engaged in greenspace projects.
  • Numbers of NHS Highland sites actively participating in Board-wide greenspace development strategy.
