Increase knowledge, skills and confidence to deliver Alcohol Brief Interventions (ABIs) in health social care, and community settings including targeted interventions.

Objective(s)

Improve pregnancy experiences and outcomes of women, their babies and wider families who experience difficulties with drugs and alcohol in North Highland.

Activities

  • Advice and support liaison service for midwives.
  • Promotion of evidence-based, trauma-informed, non-stigmatising care in local care pathways.
  • Staff training to increase the knowledge, skills and confidence of midwives regarding the impact of drugs and alcohol use in pregnancy, whilst breastfeeding and during the postnatal period.
  • Development of resources for staff and service users to support the provision of up-to-date, evidence-based information, for example conversation tools and information leaflets.
  • Antenatal Alcohol Brief Intervention (ABI) training for midwives.
  • Mapping available services across North Highland.

Governance

  • Quarterly reports to the Highland Alcohol and Drugs Partnership (HADP).
  • Externally, ABI’s reported quarterly to the Scottish Government.

  • Staff surveys.
